Without good nutrition, your body is more prone to disease, infection, fatigue, and poor performance. Children with a poor diet run the risk of growth and developmental problems. Bad eating habits can continue for the rest of their lives. The human body requires various types of nutrients in order to keep the body healthy and fit. These nutrients should be taken appropriately in our diet. The diet that we follow should be balanced. Balanced diet is a diet, which provides all the nutrients needed by the body in correct proportions. This means that it should contain all the types of nutrients in the required quantities. Each meal should contain sources of carbohydrates (such as cereals), proteins (such as pulses), fats (such as cooking oil), vitamins and minerals (such as variety of vegetables). They can be obtained from plant and animal foods. Different types of vitamins available from different sources help our body in performing different functions. But the overdose of vitamins can cause illness. Minerals: A large amount of calcium is required for healthy bones. Milk and green leafy vegetables are a very good source of calcium. Iron is another important mineral required for making haemoglobin in the blood.
